Our Medical Clinic Providers
Our Clinicians include:
- Physicians: We have 1 full-time and 3 part-time physician that provide comprehensive family medical care.
- Nurse Practitioners (NP's): We have 1 part time AHS funded Nurse Practitioner. Our NP is a full scope of practice Clinician with her own patient panels and the ability to perform physical assessments, prescribe medications, order lab and other diagnostic tests and refer patients to specialists as required. She provides comprehensive health care, patient screening, preventative medicine and teaching.
- PCN RN- Health Promotion/Chronic Disease Management- meets with patient to ensure optimal health
Clerks and Medical Office Assistants (MOA's): Our clerks/MOA's provide support to the physicians, NP's, and all other AHS programs and services. Their duties include switchboard, booking appointments, registering patients, flow patients into the clinic rooms. They assist with preventative health and screening by taking patient heights, weights, Blood Pressure (BP), Temperature, Pulse, obtain health history (medications, allergies, smoking status etc) prior to the physician or NP seeing the patient to enhance efficiencies of our clinicians and provide optimal health and well-being for our patients. They also maintain the EMR (Electronic Medical Record), stock and reorder supplies, book referrals and follow-up appointments.
Our Medical Clinic Services
Nanton Community Health Centre collaborates with Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health Care and the Calgary Rural Primary Care Network to establish for you what is called a Medical Home. A medical home is where patients feel most comfortable coming for their health needs with a specific Physician/NP guiding your health management plans. The benefits of patients seeing a specific family Physician/NP is proven to enhance your satisfaction, and optimize your health as well as your access to care. In your medical home, you can expect a long term relationship with your Physician/NP providing comprehensive care based on best practices in medicine.
In an effort to provide you with the best care possible, we respectfully request that you treat this as your medical home: your number one choice and first point of contact for where you receive family medicine, including health screening, check-ups, prescriptions and refills and your health issues that come up occasionally. We cannot optimize your care if you receive services from multiple other clinics. By making this your medical home, we will ensure the full spectrum of your health care needs are met by your physician/NP.
All unattached patients, (patients that do not have a regular family physician/NP) that present to our clinic will be asked if they wish to schedule a meet and greet appointment with one of our physicians so that we can start building a relationship and a comprehensive health record.
We always book patients with their primary Physician/NP whenever possible. If your primary Physician/NP are away on a short term leave, we will book you an appointment for when they return. If they are away on an extended leave we will try to book you with an alternate Physician/NP if they have availability.
Please call our clinic to book your appointments. We will do our best to ensure you are seen in a timely manner. If you are encountering a medical emergency, please dial 911. After business hours you can call Health Link at 811 or take yourself to the nearest Hospital or Urgent Care Centre. Please follow the instructions provided by Health Link for your after-hours care.
Typically, most office visits and procedures are covered by Alberta Health. However, it is important to note that not all services are covered. Some services are considered not medically necessary by Alberta Health and are therefore uninsured. Uninsured services include things such as form completion, sick notes, driver’s medicals and insurance requests. Nanton Community Health Centre follows guidelines from the Alberta Medical Association regarding fees for these items. A fee schedule is posted in the clinic and you will be advised of costs prior to the work being completed.
We ask that you will make every effort to make any appointments that you book at the clinic, and we in turn will make every effort to see you in a timely fashion. Please note that your appointment may need to be re-booked if you are late. If possible, please try to provide us with 24 hours notice for cancellations. We also ask that you book a separate appointment for each family member needed to be seen.
Your privacy is important to us. We cannot discuss or release any of your information to anyone (including your spouse) without your written consent. This applies to all patients. This means that if there is something here waiting for you to pick up, such as a prescription or requested documentation, you must pick it up yourself or provide written consent allowing someone else to pick it up for you. Remember parents, you will not be able to access information for your children 16 and over unless they have provided consent.
We value the work done by our staff and feel that both our staff and patients deserve a respectful environment. Should you have questions or concerns please feel free to bring them forward to your Physician/NP or a staff member who can work with you to address them appropriately.

Patient Pathway to Medical Providers
- Please book appointments for either the Physicians/NP's by calling 403-646-2218 or in person at the patient booking desk. New Patients must book a meet and greet with the Physician/NP initially. If both the patient and the Clinician agree the health needs can be met, we will require the patient and Physician/NP to sign a patient agreement acknowledging a partnership with the patient and that specific Physician or NP.
- When you arrive for your appointment, please check in with the Clerk at the desk so they know you have arrived. Be prepared to present your AHC card and ID as well as verify your contact information.
- It is important for you to know and report your health history, allergies, medications (including over the counter, vitamins, herbs, or alternative therapies) every visit. One of our Clerks/MOA's may see you prior to the physician or NP as part of our preventative health and screening program. They may take your height, weight, BP, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, obtain your health history, allergies, medications, smoking status etc.
- If your Clinician orders lab tests, it is recommended you book an appointment. The lab is trying to accommodate walk in appointments Monday-Thursday in the afternoons only, but please be aware that you may have to wait for extended times without an appointment.
- If you are being referred to a specialist, the clerks will liaise with the receiving office to coordinate your appointment. It sometimes takes several days to coordinate. If you haven't heard back within a week, please call us back.
